The coming week will see Facebook, arguably the biggest social networking platform the world has witnessed, pulling the veil off a new advertising platform. The product, reportedly called as Atlas, is a redesigned version of Atlas Advertiser Suite. Atlas Advertiser Suite was ad assessment platform which Facebook bought from Microsoft Corp in the year gone by. The advertising platform, Atlas, to be launched by Facebook in some days is expected to make online ads more effective by providing detailed analysis of online advertising parameters.
The re-engineered Atlas Advertiser Suite by Facebook would be more potent to specifically target the users of the social networking platform by identifying the potential patron in the users in a more precise manner. Microsoft has brought the advertising assessment tool from digital ad agency aQuantive in the year 2007 for a monetary value of about 6.2 billion USD. However, it was not able to exploit its potential for its purposes and hence Microsoft traded it with Facebook. The exact amount of the deal between Facebook Inc and Microsoft Corp for Atlas Advertiser Suite was not made public.
Ad revenues are prime source of income for Facebook and out of its entire ad revenue income as much as 62 percent of it comes from mobile advertising. Facebook has nearly 1.5 million advertising patrons and lags only behind global market leaders Google Inc for online ad displays in the United States. With the imminent launch of this new advertising platform in the next week, Facebook is set to arm its advertisers with more teeth to eat into the gap between them and market leader, Google Inc. The minutes about the advertising platforms is yet to be announced by Facebook and is expected to be made public with its launch in the next week.
